Meaning of a Rooster on a Cross / Crucifix
The rooster reminds us of Peter's denial during
Christ's Passion,
and his subsequent repentance and conversion. "And the Lord
turned and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word
of the Lord, how he said, 'Before a cock crows, thou wilt deny me
three times.' And Peter went out and wept bitterly." (Luke 22: 61-62)
The rooster also reminds us that if Peter could
fail any of us can.
More importantly, after failing we should repent and turn again to
the Lord, as Peter did, and by this example give encouragement to
our brothers and sisters in Christ.
